We work collaboratively with clients to identify treatment goals and a plan. Through our experience of working with people with diverse presentations we appreciate the need to individualise therapy. Our therapists strive to work flexibly to suit each client's needs. At the River Psychology Group we believe that central to significant progress is a meaningful therapeutic relationship. Our therapists are trained in a number of evidence-based therapy models and work with clients to identify the most appropriate one for them.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT)
Schema Therapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Mindfulness Based Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

We know that people enter therapy for different reasons with different experiences. Some people may have a good idea of areas they want to work on or may have had therapy before. Whereas others may not quite know what is going on for them - just that their life isn't heading the way they want it to.
At the River Psychology Group in the initial therapy appointment we complete an assessment to determine an overview of your situation and how we might be able to help. There is no obligation to commit to further work, but this will allow us to form a psychological understanding of your current situation and an action plan.
We are currently offering both face-to-face and online therapy.
Ensure you have a strong internet connection that will prevent the session from being interrupted. It can help to close other apps and programs that you are not using.
Your therapist will make prior agreement with you for what to do in the event of any technical issues.
Choose a private location for the call to ensure confidentiality. We advise using headphones as this can also maximise privacy while enhancing the audio quality of the call.
Having lighting directing towards you will improve the image quality. Avoid having lighting from behind you, e.g. sitting with your back against a window. Position the camera towards your face, ideally at eye level.
